any body got any good advice on how to contact john deere about a new 4400 tractor that has too many problems to list here. I have heard of other manufacturers actually taking in a problem unit and replacing it. I maybe looking for too much but as this is my 3rd JD compact they ought to at least listen to me.

Write letters/email to dealer and to John Deere regional and national offices.Their webpage has email address for the division that makes the 4000 series. I had a problem with my 4300 collar shift, they went out searching and got me a 4300 hydro within 2 days. ....

Hi Chuck,There seems to be a problem with my 4400 hst. my friend has a 4300 hst and has had not one problem. I mow with a finish mower on well kept lawns. I really don't like the tire scuff when turning that is as the dealer puts it "not something Deere is looking at fixing right now." I have seen other posts on this site that ask about it too. I took delivery in october for machine i ordered in juneWhen I had about 20 hrs. on it the pto locked up when I stood up to check the saftey interlock in the seat.and the tractor wouldn't even start or move. That took over a month to get fixed because there were no parts available. Then at 40 hrs it had some prblems with the hydralic pump that cause the bucket to run slow (5 days in shop). then at 60 hrs the 3pt went haywire (2 weeks in shop). All in all I hope my experience is unique. I have had 2 other Deere compacts (755 1000+hrs and 955 700+hrs, 955 i still own) i never had one problem with them. I am not really hard on my machinery, I take very good care of them. But this is really begining to get me down. This tractor is good when it works, it will dig like a Bobcat and pull like a Kenworth, when it works. If you would like to email me I will detail how the tractor is getting along now. ....

I have been searching for a JD 870 - 1070 fwd with a planetary gear rear for a long time now and I have finally given up. I opted to buy a new 4400 with the 12F/12R synchro gear transmission. I plan on using the tractor for landscaping,backhoe/loader work and mowing. I really did not like the idea of not one dealer (I have four) to haveone on site to test drive. The 4300 seems to be plentiful and is similiar.I would really like to know what problems they have before mine is delivered. The dealer assures me it is a very nice machine. (I hope it was not just a sales pitch). You are correct delivery time is in months! Any help would be appreciated! ....

Hey nick, I am the original poster for this message. My 4400 is a very good machine when it runs properly. I have had many problems that have the dealer befuddled because of how new the tractor is. I did learn that Deere is pulling in all the 4400HST (and 4300?) to replace a washer in the transmission. It entails pulling the rear axles and is very labor intensive. something to do with a subgrade metal by a submanufacturer. You say you are going to be using your tractor for landscaping and mowing, you should consider a hydro. I mow about 10 acres sometimes twice a week and the HST makes it nice. I also grade a few yards a year and this is also nice. Just a note, in my own yard, I had a 36" snapper rider and it took about 2 hrs to mow the yard and then trim, now with a 72" on my 4400 it take 25 min and I have less to trim. You will like the belly mower. By the way, I emailed Deere at their website and heard back from them in one day. they even contacted my dealer. we will see what happens now. If you have any other questions feel free to email me. ....
